Nature walk today

Today we took a walk looking for contrast.
We found some different types of tree bark.

And used a ruler to show the different sizes of fungi we found.

We also took lots of "just for fun" nature pictures!

Some red leaves.
The end of a log.
Part of a log.
And of course the cat and dog had to go along, too!
Licorice
And Kermit! (Love this picture! lol)

Tabbi making a Fall tree painting.

The finished picture!

This week...

Becca and Tabbi made a dessert with chocolate animal cookies, whipped cream, and banana slices!
Tabbi LOVES to collect eggs! She goes out two or three times a day to see if there are any more.

Tabbi decided she wanted to make Christmas ornaments today... guess it's because of the cold weather! She used glue and glitter to trace shapes. We have to wait for the glue to dry to see how these turn out.
Then she made a glue snowman! He turned out kind of cute... but his glue has to dry, too!

Nature walk

On Wednesday, we collected different colored items, to see how many fall colors we could find. Our trees are mostly bare already, so there weren't a whole lot of colored leaves.
This is the chart she colored to show many different fall colors.
Tabbi found a feather, too.

On Oct 7th, we watched someone dig a trench for the wire to go from the light pole to the workshop.

Nathanael helped to get the big rocks out.
This is the pipe that the wire will go through.

Camp Forest Springs

Thursday morning we went to Camp Forest Springs. We went to a program called "Wet and Wild". The kids donned hip waders and watched Alex demonstrate how to catch critters in the pond.

Here's Tabbi catching her own "critters". She caught lots of tiny clams and tadpoles,

a dragonfly nymph,

And even a giant water beetle!
There were all girls in our class, but they weren't squeamish! They caught minnows, frogs, tadpoles, bugs and crustaceans.

Leaf miners and leaf rollers

We took a walk in the yard today to look for leaf miners and leaf rollers. How interesting! I never knew that these little insects even existed!
Leaf miners trails.
See the leaf roller? It's the little white catterpillar near her finger!

Drawing pictures in her nature journal.

Little House in the Big Woods

On Tuesday, we went to Pepin, WI to see the "Little House in the Big Woods". A replica of the house where Laura Ingalls Wilder was born. First we stopped at the "Little House Wayside".
There's Tabbi in the doorway!

Becca, Meredith and Tabbi
Then we went into town and had lunch at the "Laura Ingalls Wilder Park".
Then on to the museum.

The girls had a lot of fun and each got a small souvenier from the gift shop.
