Signs of Mammals

 We went for a walk in the woods looking for signs of mammals.

First we found some lilac branches that had the bark chewed on.  Deer?  Rabbit?

 Then we found some animals tracks in the mud.  This one was from our dog, Kermit, who was walking with us.

 This is a raccoon track.

 And we saw LOTS of deer tracks.  Tomorrow is the first day of hunting season.  They better start hiding!

 Scat!  I don't know what kind.

 We found lots of branches where the deer have scraped off the bark.

 More scat!  Different kind, I don't know what kind this one is either!

 The only mammal we actually saw was our new puppy, Otis!  lol

 

Oh look!  Bobcat tracks!  lol,  too bad it was a machine and not a mammal!

 
And although ants aren't mammals we were amazed by this huge ant hill we found!

Nature Journal - Leaf Study

I wanted to put some leaves into my journal, so I decided to laminate a few.  Then I saw how it would make a really interesting page if we could see BOTH sides of the leaves.  So I taped one edge to the edge of my journal page and left the other edge free to open.  I love how this looks!

 Now you can see both sides of the leaves and they should last a LONG time being laminated.

 I hope the color of the leaves doesn't fade!

This is a rose leaf.  We were amazed at how it is made up of tiny blocks made up of tiny blocks!

Fun at the Children's Museum

We went to the Children's Museum this morning.

 

Vanessa, Tabbi, Kathrine, Andre, Drake, Becca, Meredith

 Tabbi said this was her favorite activity.  Building a house.

Columbus Day

With Columbus Day being celebrated on Monday, and the actual day being on Friday, we are taking this whole week to do some reading and projects about Columbus.  This is an "old" map we made.

And here Tabbi tells about some of the things she has learned.

Shamrock Spider

I found this shamrock spider outside today!  It was cold out so it was moving pretty slowly.

A look at trees...

Tabbi and I went for a walk in the woods to look at trees.  We found a few other interesting things while we were out there.  First of all, this leaf that looked like it had snow on it!  There wasn't any other of the white stuff around and it was way too warm for snow!  We don't know WHAT it was!

One of or goals for today was to take a photo of four parts of a tree.  Tabbi chose this Spruce tree.

 This is our maple tree, but the leaves are almost all off already.
